Travel Assistance Digital Library

The RTA provides travel assistance to riders across the Chicago region including mobility education through individualized and group travel training, support for riders with disabilities and help for those applying to discounted fare programs. Access Pilot Program

The RTA, Metra, and Cook County are partnering to extend reduced fares to Metra riders experiencing low incomes regionwide through the Access Pilot Program from Feb. 1, 2024 to July 31, 2025.

Beginning January 16, 2024, all recipients of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, living in the counties of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, and Will are eligible to apply for more affordable transit at GetAccess.org.

ADA Paratransit

Individuals who are interested in using ADA Paratransit service must apply and be found eligible according to ADA guidelines. The RTA handles ADA Paratransit Certification for the entire Chicago region to determine an individual's functional ability to use fixed route services.

Ride Free

Older adults and people with disabilities who are enrolled in the Illinois Department on Aging’s Benefit Access program are eligible to ride free on the CTA, Metra and Pace fixed-route services. Eligibility in the Illinois Department on Aging’s Benefit Access Program (BAP) is required in order to be found eligible for the RTA Ride Free program.

Reduced Fare

RTA issues Reduced Fare Permits to allow older adults and persons with qualifying disabilities to ride at a reduced rate on CTA, Metra and Pace buses and trains.

Travel Training

The RTA Travel Training Program helps people with disabilities and older adults learn how to use Metra, Pace, and CTA buses and trains. Travel Training helps people become more independent in their travel.
