Twice a year the RTA publishes a Project Management Oversight (PMO) report that details major transit investments by CTA, Metra, and Pace and fulfills our oversight role in ensuring that we are efficient stewards of capital funding. There are 107 projects detailed in the December 2022 PMO report, representing more than $7.56 billion worth of construction, maintenance, and procurement to improve the Chicago region’s transit system. Read the full report.
Highlights from the latest PMO report include:
Expected Completion: December 2023
Budget: $70,017,063
The purpose of this new project is to provide a place for storage, maintenance, and repair of over 125 pieces of equipment. This new facility is necessary as it is replacing a rail shop that was demolished in 2009. The new building will be approximately 70,000 sq. ft. and will address the various needs of non‐revenue rail equipment maintenance.
Expected Design Completion: December 2023
Budget: $6,000,000
Metra is partnering with Pace for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Harvey Transportation Center on the Metra Electric Line. This project will include new station entrance, new platform headhouses and waiting areas, new elevators, and other upgrades that will create a better experience for public transit riders in the south suburbs.
Completed December 2022
Budget: $55,385,593
Together, Pace and the Village of Plainfield have entered into an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) for the design and construction of a new Pace bus maintenance and storage facility. This new garage in Plainfield is necessary to support the growth of Pace’s I-55 Bus-on-Shoulder service. The construction of the facility has been completed in December of 2022 and Pace is currently running operations out of the new garage.
Together, the RTA and Service Boards report capital programs and expenditures which are detailed in the 2022 Project Management Oversight (PMO) report. Included in the details are the progress, schedule and budget for each active project.
