Earlier this year, the RTA, the Village of Bannockburn, GlenStar Properties and Lyft teamed up to launch a new weekday ridehail pilot that connects commuters from Metra to GlenStar’s Bannockburn Lakes office complex. Employees who work at these properties are provided with a Lyft code that allows access to free rides between the office complex and one of four nearby Metra stations on weekdays between 4:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. The pilot demonstrates a business-led model for connecting people to suburban jobs through transit and new mobility. More than 1,500 trips have been taken since its launch, demonstrating that this is an effective model for serving the needs of low-density, suburban office parks.
The Lake County Municipal League recently recognized the innovative and collaborative nature of the pilot by awarding the Village of Bannockburn an Honorable Mention at its 2019 Annual Dinner and Municipal Innovation Awards event on December 4. The award garnered the praise of U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth and U.S. Representative Bradley Schneider.
RTA Staff Peter Fahrenwald and Peter Kersten lead the RTA's mobility pilot efforts and have been instrumental in this work along with Maria Lasday, Bannockburn Village Manager and David Brannigan, GlenStar’s Bannockburn Lakes General Manager.
“It’s great when the public and private sectors can work together to provide a solution that works for everyone. We were proud to accept this award on behalf of the Village of Bannockburn.” said Village President Frank “Bud” Rothing.
