The RTA Celebrates ADA Month!
July 6, 2017
July 6, 2017
July celebrates the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) give civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities similar to those provided to individuals on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, and religion. The ADA and ADAAA also assure equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities for access to businesses, employment, transportation, state and local government programs and services, and telecommunications.
The RTA is committed to assuring that riders in our region—regardless of physical ability—have access to and understand how to use the region’s transit system. This video, brought to you by our Mobility Services Department, provides an overview of ADA accessible public transit options available throughout the RTA region, as well as an overview of RTA’s programs for older adults and people with disabilities. The second video in our Mobility Management Video Series highlights accessibility features that are offered throughout the region’s transit system. Accessible public transit enables all customers to travel throughout the region including those with various disabilities and older adults. This video shows all the accessibility features found on Pace buses, CTA buses and “L” trains and Metra trains.
