Village of Carpentersville Board of Trustees Approve RTA Funded Transit Improvement Plan

January 8, 2015

Plan provides more transit options for local manufacturer workers

CHICAGO – The Village of Carpentersville Board of Trustees recently adopted a local transit improvement plan funded by the Regional Transportation Authority. The Carpentersville Transit Improvement Plan recommends transit options like a Pace vanpool to make it easier for residents to get to jobs in the community.  The Plan received nearly $75,000 in planning and municipal funds, including $59,983 from the RTA’s Community Planning program and a local match of $14,996 from the Village of Carpentersville.

"The RTA is pleased to contribute to Carpentersville’s plan by providing funds and technical assistance,” says Leanne P. Redden, RTA Executive Director, “The Village’s efforts to develop the plan shows the community’s commitment to adding transit choices and enhance transit use, which the RTA knows ultimately benefits the whole region.”

Carpentersville is home to numerous manufacturing sites that are difficult to serve with traditional transit options. The Plan recommends using Pace’s traditional vanpool program as a temporary solution to assist residents in getting to and from work. Pace’s vanpool allows residents that live and work near each other and share the same work schedules to use a Pace van for travel to and from work for a flat monthly fee. Long term, the Plan recommends Carpentersville fund a permanent local transit service through Pace’s Municipal Vehicle Program that will have scheduled stops, transporting employees to their jobs.

This plan is one of many TOD planning, local service and implementation projects funded through the RTA’s Community Planning Program. To date, the program has completed more than 178 projects such as  TOD, local service and implementation plans since the late 1990’s, using a combination of RTA, local and federal funds, totaling nearly $20 million.
