RTA to Host Second Annual Access to Transit Workshop October 20th

The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), in partnership with DePaul University’s Chaddick Institute, is hosting “Access to Transit: Connecting through Corridors,” on October 20 at the University’s downtown Chicago campus at 1 E. Jackson Blvd.

The second annual event is open to local experts, including municipal and transit agency staff, regional planners, and elected officials to learn about and discuss the benefits of improving access to transit in terms of regional connectivity, economic development, and access to jobs.  Attendees will have the chance to hear first-hand how others have successfully enhanced access to transit in the six-county RTA region by implementing recommendations of RTA Community Planning projects. 

"We are pleased to once again co-host this event, highlighting not only the important work of the RTA with regional communities but also to share information about the benefits of making it easier for people to reach transit,“  said RTA Executive Director Leanne Redden. "Attendees learn how to apply principles the RTA has honed over the years, demonstrating how small scale improvements like installation of sidewalks, crosswalks and pedestrian access can have a huge impact on community vitality, pedestrian networks, and access to transit."

Speakers include RTA, Pace and Metra staff as well as representatives from Village of Niles, Hoffman Estates and private sector. Presentations will cover a variety of topics that illustrate the positive outcomes of small-scale infrastructure improvements.  The discussion will focus on corridor-level projects, ranging from plans that help communities work together to make the most if their respective assets to work by an individual community to identify the most transit-friendly way to develop a major roadway. Seating is limited.
