Pledge to take CTA, Metra and Pace on June 19 and enter for a Chance to Win

(CHICAGO) – The Chicago White Sox and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) are teaming up to challenge riders and fans to pledge to ‘Dump the Pump’ and take transit on Thursday, June 19. First time and veteran transit riders can log onto the RTA’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ChicagoRTA now through June 19, click the tab “#TryTransit”, and pledge to Dump the Pump and be automatically entered to win one of many great prizes. Dump the Pump Day is a national initiative sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association that encourages everyone to leave their cars behind and take public transit on the third Thursday in June each year.

“We’re asking people to leave their cars at home and take transit for the day. It’s the summer time and in Chicago that means construction season with congested highways and rising gas prices,” said Leanne Redden, RTA Acting Executive Director. “There’s no time better to try transit in our region and be among the many who save approximately 150 million gallons of gas annually by taking transit in our region. Let us know what you’ve done by visiting our Facebook page and entering to win great prizes.”

This year, the White Sox and RTA are reminding fans at White Sox games from June 13 to June 18, when the White Sox take on the San Francisco Giants and Kansas City Royals, about Dump the Pump Day. The White Sox and the RTA will celebrate the important day with in-stadium ads easily seen by fans at the game and those watching at home.

The RTA is also asking riders to spread the word about how they Dump the Pump via their own Facebook pages and Twitter accounts using the hashtag: #TryTransit. In addition, riders are encouraged to share the RTA’s Facebook posts about Dump the Pump with their friends and family.
