The RTA operates a performance measurement and reporting program to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of public transit in Northeastern Illinois and to increase transparency and accountability. Overall performance is measured in five major areas:
- Service Coverage
- Service Efficiency and Effectiveness
- Service Delivery
- Service Maintenance and Capital Investment
- Service Level Solvency
The Regional Report Card aggregates data from CTA, Metra, and Pace to report on the region as a whole. The Sub-Regional Report presents data for each Service Board and mode (bus, rail, dial-a-ride, vanpool, and ADA paratransit) separately. The RTA also undertakes a peer review process, resulting in two companion annual reports: the Regional Peer Report Card and the Sub-Regional Peer Report.
The Ridership Report looks at ridership trends on a line -by-line or bus route group basis over a five-year trend period.
The Strategic Performance Measures Report gives on overall look at how well RTA service fits into the region’s transit-related needs and goals, as defined by the RTA Strategic Plan and CMAP’s GoTo2040 Comprehensive Regional Plan.
These reports are updated periodically with guidance and collaboration from the Performance Measures Task Force, which includes representatives from each Service Board and the RTA.
