The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) announced the appointment of John V. Frega of Riverside as its newest board member. Frega replaces Judy Baar Topinka who was elected as the State’s Comptroller last January. Frega will finish off Topinka’s term, representing suburban Cook County.

Frega is an architect with a background in regional and city planning, and transportation facilities. Through his self-named firm, Frega has been responsible for designing, planning and construction concepts of major transportation facilities including six Metra stations, the CTA Bus Maintenance Facility, UIC Transportation Building, design studies for the Eisenhower Expressway and many municipal public work facilities. Additionally, his firm has designed major municipal buildings, village halls, police and fire stations, libraries and health facilities throughout the Chicagoland area.

“We welcome Mr. Frega to our board. His training and professional experience are very complimentary and will be effectively utilized,” said John S. Gates, Jr., RTA Board Chairman.

Frega has a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Regional and City Planning from the Illinois Institute of Technology where he studied architecture under Mies van der Rohe and regional and city planning under Ludwig Hilberseimir. His educational background also includes post graduate studies in Engineering and Business Law.
