APTA Sponsers Contest to Encorage Use of Public Transportation

CHICAGO – The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) is spreading the word to encourage commuters to Dump the Pump for a chance to win free transit for a year.

The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) is sponsoring the Dump the Pump video contest, asking Americans to reveal why they dumped the pump.  Contestants can create a short video describing why they’ve chosen to dump the pump this summer. It can be for a myriad of reasons from saving money, helping the environment, easing traffic congestion or reducing common stress incurred with traffic.

“We hope that APTA’s contest will further educate the public about the merits of mass transit that helps strengthen the economy and improves our quality of life. The contest will clearly demonstrate how the CTA, Metra and Pace keep our region moving,” said Steve Schlickman, RTA Executive Director.

Contestants should create their personal videos and upload it to their youtube account, tagging their submission, “Dump the Pump You Tube Channel.” APTA will find uploaded submissions and automatically enter them into the contest.

The grand prize winner will receive one year of free transit. The second place winner will receive six months of free transit and the third place winning contestant will receive three months of free transit. The contest is open to the public and submitted videos will be judged based upon creativity, content and overall impact. The contest deadline is September 18, 2009.

For complete contest rules and regulations, including detailed instructions about how to submit videos through the youtube.com channel and signing up for a free you tube account, visit our website at www.rtachicago.com.
