Plan to encourage and promote transportation options

Chicago -- The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) announced today the launch of a transit improvement plan for the Village of Addison. The plan will provide the Village assistance in identifying, analyzing, and developing a plan that encourages, promotes, and complements transit options along Route 20/Lake Street.  The Village received a $100,000 grant to fund the plan through the RTA’s Community Planning program, a grant program that focuses on planning assistance for local communities.

“We’re excited to work with communities to identify local improvements that encourage transit use,” commented Leanne Redden, Senior Deputy Executive Director of Planning and Regional Programs. “By investing now in a plan for the future, the Village of Addison will be in a much better position to accommodate transit use, provide inter-modal connections and allow the community to better take advantage of the transit resources in the area.”

The study will look at the Route 20/Lake Street Corridor from IL Route 83 to Swift Road and the area around the newly commissioned Pace Route 711.  Redevelopment Guidelines will be created that support transit and pedestrians.   A circulation plan that will recommend ways to accommodate multi-modal transportation will also be provided.

“Improving access to transit is important for the residents of our Village especially in this climate of higher gas prices and economic uncertainty,” commented Mayor Larry Hartwig, Village of Addison. He added, “We have the opportunity to emphasize transit’s role in our community and how it will impact the quality of life for those living in our Village.”

Each of the key tasks of the plan will be determined by evaluating existing development patterns as well as through the visioning process with community stakeholders. The plan will also take into consideration the unique characteristics and ongoing and past planning initiatives of the Village.
