Ventra

All customers enrolled in RTA’s Reduced FareRide Free and ADA Paratransit  programs should have received a new permit for use with the Ventra system on CTA and Pace. If you have not received your new permit, please call 312-913-3110 immediately.

 

If you have received your permit please

activate it by calling 1-877-450-5328.

 

Beginning July 1,  RTA Reduced Fare, Ride Free and ADA Paratransit customers can no longer use magnetic stripe permits on CTA, Metra and Pace. Pace customers paying with cash will no longer be issued a Reduced Fare Transfer Card. All customers will be transitioned to Ventra. Click here for frequently asked questions.

Are you eligible for a Reduced Fare Program?

Seniors

If you are aged 65 or older and are not enrolled in the Illinois Department on Aging's Benefit Access program, you are eligible for reduced fare. All seniors may apply in person at the RTA’s Customer Service Center at 69 W. Washington St., Lower Level Pedway, Chicago. Our hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Call us at (312) 913-3110 for more information. You may also download an application, or apply at any one of our 200 registration sites in the region. At the registration center, you will be required to present
1. A government-issued picture identification card that verifies your age (drivers license, state of Illinois ID card, alien registration card or passport).
2. A wallet-sized color photo of yourself that is approximately 1 1/2" square. Do not wear a hat, scarf or sunglasses in the photo. Some registration centers may charge up to $5 for taking your photo. The RTA’s Customer Service Center does not charge for this service. You should receive your new reduced fare permit within 3-4 weeks.

 

Persons with Disabilities

All persons with disabilities who are not enrolled in the Illinois Department on Aging’s Benefit Access program must complete an application and submit proof of disability. A doctor can fill out both the disability form and must attach a letter of diagnosis, or if you are receiving disability payments from Social Security, a printout from Social Security dated this year with the word “disabled" is required. If you are a disabled veteran, a letter from the Veteran's Administration regarding your service connected disability must be submitted.  Also required are:

1. A government-issued picture identification card that verifies your age (drivers license, state of Illinois ID card, alien registration card or passport).

2. A wallet-sized color photo of yourself that is approximately 1 1/2" square. Do not wear a hat, scarf or sunglasses in the photo. Some registration centers may charge up to $5 for taking your photo. The RTA’s Customer Service Center does not charge for this service.

Medicare card holders (other than disabled):

Any individual with a current valid Medicare card is eligible for a reduced fare permit. To apply as a Medicare cardholder, you will need verification of Medicare status. You can obtain a printout verifying your status by calling the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213, or by visiting a Social Security Administration Office.
 
Individuals with Medicare cards who are not disabled and not a senior must bring this proof of status in addition to their cards. Applicants must also provide:
1. A government-issued picture identification card that verifies your age (drivers license, state of Illinois ID card, alien registration card or passport).
2. A wallet-sized color photo of yourself that is approximately 1 1/2" square. Do not wear a hat, scarf or sunglasses in the photo. Some registration centers may charge up to $5 for taking your photo. The RTA’s Customer Service Center does not charge for this service. You may mail in your application form or you can apply in person at the RTA’s Customer Service Center at 69 W. Washington St., Lower Level Pedway, Chicago. Our hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Photo service is available at this location.
 
Renewing Reduced Fare Permits

All reduced fare permit cardholders with an expired or one that will expire soon, you will need to re-apply.  Call one of our customer service representatives at the RTA's Customer Service Center at 69 W. Washington St., Lower Level Pedway, Chicago for more information on how to renew a permit. Our hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please have your ID number at the bottom of your permit ready to give to the customer service representative. You may also download the appropriate senior or disability application above, or apply at any one of our registration sites in the region. Replacement Permits

If your reduced fare permit is lost, stolen or damaged, you must fill out a replacement application. The fee is $5.00 for the first replacement and $10.00 for each additional replacement. It is not necessary to submit another photo. Download a replacement application , or call 836-7000 to have one mailed to you.
